That winter wonderland that I was telling you about in my previous post? It was no joke. But no snowmegeddon was going to stop me from attending Alt! I made it there safely between snowstorms thanks to the coordinated effort of my dedicated husband, mama and papa. They were determined to get me to the airport to make the conference. (Hmmm. Now that I think about it, should I be offended that they were trying so hard? Maybe I’m not as easy to be around as I thought…)
But whatever the reason, I’m extremely happy that it worked out so well. Knowing what I know now, I would have been crushed if I missed it. Yep, it’s that good. In fact, it’s so good that I don’t think I can formulate a blog post that will do it justice for a few days. Will you hang on a little bit longer so I can tell you all about it?
Just one tidbit before the big recap. One of the primary reasons I wanted to go was to meet, in person, some of the amazing bloggers I have met online. I have major girl crushes on them. And not so coincidentally, developed many more while there. There are some seriously amazing women who blog. (And yes Uncle Beefy, I’m totally leaving you out by classifying it as a girl crush. So to be more precise, I have some girl crushes and a Beefy crush. But “a beefy crush” sounded a little unseemly for a post title. Please forgive me.)
But back to the girl crush. Have you read this article in the January issue of W Magazine? Thessaly la Force documents the feelings around meeting a woman you have admired from afar so well. Go read it and substitute me for Thessaly. That was me: nervous, wanting to look just right, speak well…basically, just try to avoid being an ass. Hopefully I accomplished that. However, you may not feel that way after seeing the photo of me and some of my Alt crew.

Why yes, that is me looking like a wooden spoon pirate about to attack Bradford with a kitchen utensil!
I guess there is just no hiding that I’m a little bit of a goofy ass. But guess what? At Alt I learned that not only just fine, but to be celebrated. :)

It definitely was, D!

Melis
ps I think we were ALL just trying to look good and not be a total ass. You succeeded brilliantly! :)
Aww thank you, Melis! I tried commenting on your blog today to tell you how much I enjoyed meeting you and reveling in your great spirit, but the blog wasn’t having it. From now on I’ll just need to tell how awesome you are through Twitter! :)
Katie,
I <3 you. You are my girl crush! For realises.
Thanks so much for hanging out with me. I sincerely SINCERELY!!! hope we get to hang together again one of these days. Until then, we'll have the blogosphere.
It is mutual, lady! We absolutely need to hang out together again. It was too much fun…loved being around all your great energy and creativity! (And finally someone who can match me laugh for laugh… :) ) xo
Katie, you are so, so cute (and i do not mean that in a condescending way), and I know that when we meet, I’ll love you that much more (goofy-ass n’ all) :). (so happy that you ‘took the plunge’ despite nervousness & got to meet so many inspiring/talented women, and i really can’t wait to hear more)
p.s.
ryan is being considered for a position that will require occasional travel to seattle… my first comment to him (after “oh, how cool!”)???… “then i could go with you and MEET KATIE!!!” =)
You are so great, T. Thank you! And Seattle? Seriously????!!!! You MUST (!!!) come along!
That looks like fun! I’m glad Mother Nature didn’t interfere with your plans.
Those storms totally took me by surprise! I heard it got pretty bad on Thursday with the ice, too. You guys got socked in your area! I’m going over to visit your blog and see what you wore those days… :)
Definitely looks like you had a lot of fun! I too would not have let a snowstorm get in my way of attending alt!
Thanks for visiting my blog, Tan! And yep, I was pretty determined to get there…even if I had to take multiple forms of transportation. There were lots of Seattle area bloggers (including me) who were thinking of all sorts of ways to get to Alt if we needed to! :)
I find it so hard to believe you were nervous. You were awesomely awesome, Katie — and I was so glad to meet you in person. There’s nothing like those real life connections and putting a face and fabulous personality with the name and blog. Wooden spoon pirate eye and all.
Why you PT people gotta go all pirate-criminal on us superiors from Bainbridge? Jealous? Eh, don’t be! ;) xo
